Want to join our Speaker Training Program? You’ve only got until September 5th to register. Last year’s course was such a success for our participants that we’ve decided to refine and repeat it this fall. The program is designed for anyone who wants to be a better presenter in any setting—work, community, school, or conference.
You don’t need any prior speaking experience, just a desire to deliver a succinct message with confidence. We’ll create a warm and welcoming environment where you can gain experience speaking in front of an audience, hone your message, and receive loving feedback.
Format
We’ll meet weekly on Monday nights from 6:00-7:30 starting on September 8th and the location is the Rogue Credit Union’s corporate office at 2125 S Pacific Highway in Medford. Enter through the main doors from the parking lot. Please note that October 13th is a holiday, so our last class (for six-week attendees) will be on October 20th.
You can opt for either a four-week or a six-week course. The first four meetings will cover the basics of speaking, including topics, presence and delivery. The next two meetings, which are optional, will cover conference speaking, materials development, and speaker branding. The cost is $150 for four weeks, $195 for six weeks.
Instructor Bio – Libby Gill
In Libby’s 25 years of professional speaking, she has delivered keynotes in 43 states and on four continents. Her clients include Amazon, Asante Foundation, Biogen, Capital One, Disney, Genentech, Honda, Intel, Marriot, Novo Nordisk, PayPal, Rogue Credit Union, The Human Bean, United Healthcare, Wells Fargo, Women’s Leadership Conference of Southern Oregon and many more. She has also trained numerous leaders and professional speakers to create more meaningful and memorable presentations.
The six sessions will cover the following content and more:
- Develop Initial idea. Participants will develop their topic idea, which might be a talk for a work presentation (mock or actual), a church or school talk, or other topic of personal interest to them. We will workshop the topic to see if it is compelling to others, clear and succinct, and relevant to the speaker’s intended audience.
- Create outline. Speaker will commit their idea to paper, creating an elevator pitch and detailed outline, which may include questions, data, case studies or personal stories.
- Stand up idea. Speakers will “put the idea on its feet” and workshop their presentation in the room, soliciting feedback from classmates and instructor.
- Rehearse and refine. Speakers will continue to develop their speech on their own and in class, then deliver a portion of their speech in the workshop, possibly in front of an audience of invited guests. (We’re also considering a speaker showcase – stay tuned for more.)
- Optional: Become Conference-Ready. Speakers will learn to create speaker materials, including outline, speaker intro, PowerPoint, and video.
- Optional: Go Pro. For those who plan to making speaking part of their business model, this module will cover the basics of creating a speaker website and video, as well as strategies for selling to speaker bureaus and direct clients.
